About Us

Individually Guided Retreat

Individually Guided Retreats (IGR) take place in an atmosphere of quiet. They provide the maximum opportunity for individuals to have space and time for prayer, rest and reflection.

The Prayer of each retreatant is guided by the conversations that take place between the retreatant and their prayer guide. Prayer guides at Edenham are all experienced in this ministry. It is always possible to change a prayer guide if the relationship is not a fruitful one. Meetings with the prayer guide take place at least once a day, perhaps more in special circumstances. The retreatant shares with their prayer guide their experience in prayer helping the prayer guide to suggest material and methods of prayer during the retreat. Retreatants are given help and guidance about how to use their prayer time in preparation for the retreat. Meals are taken in silence often with music being played in the background. There are opportunities for shared acts of prayer and worship, Holy Communion is celebrated each day and there is a daily time for shared prayer of intercession. Attendance at these corporate acts are entirely voluntary!

The facilities and setting of the Regional House provides plenty of spaces to be quiet both inside and outside, including the Summer House, Stable Chapel and the Church. There are many walks in Bourne Woods and Grimsthorpe Park which can be reached from the Vicarage. To reach the upper rooms takes 40 steps in four flights of stairs, potential retreatants must bear this in mind before coming to Edenham. Once into the retreat it is not necessary to make journeys up and down stairs, perhaps once a day, possibly twice, but every effort will be made to make your stay as easy and as comfortable as possible.

The Coach House, opened in Summer 2003 provides ensuite accommodation (twin bedded) on the ground floor adjacent to the Chapel. This is adapted for wheel chair use.

Edenham Regional House is a registered charity and we ask for voluntary donations to cover the cost of running the house. From January 2002 the suggested contribution for a 24 hour stay is £30.00. Individuals are invited to give more or less according to ability and inclination. If you have any queries or hesitations please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Upper Rooms

Since 1989 ERH (Edenham Regional House) has provided some limited residential accommodation. Following an appeal launched in November 1998 The Regional House Trust has been successful in extending and improving these facilities.

There are now four bedrooms and one bedsit/kitchen/dining area on the second floor of the house. Two of the bedrooms (one twin and one single) are fully ensuite having toilet, washbasin and shower. Two bedrooms (one twin, one single) are ensuite having toilet and washbasin only. There is a separate shower room and a separate bathroom.

There is a kitchenette which enable guests to be self-catered, but breakfast, lunch and evening meal can be provided.

ERH is a charitable Trust and voluntary contributions are invited to cover running expenses. It is possible to fully cater i.e. for meals to be served in the Dining Room for guests, a contribution of £30.00 per person would cover the costs of this arrangement.
