HOLY COMMUNION ON FRIDAY

Every Friday there is a celebration of the Eucharist on the Stable Chapel at 12 noon. The service lasts around forty-five minutes and has an emphasis on quiet reflective prayer. It also includes a short talk on the day's scripture readings. This is followed by a bring and share lunch for those able to stay. There is no need to book – just turn up. This service happens throughout the year except the last three Fridays in August and Good Friday.

REGIONAL HOUSE PROGRAMME

DAYS OF REFLECTION: These days begin at 10.00 am and end at 4.00 pm. Lunch is provided. Please notify the house of any dietary needs. Suggested contribution is £12.50. (But participants can give more or less according to will or circumstances)........

Swinstead's Harvest Festival is on Friday 3 rd October at 7.00pm followed by supper at 8.00pm. Details of the supper format and tickets will be made available in the parishes

HARVEST HOME!

Witham on the Hill has two services for harvest a service at 10.00am with all the children present and a traditional service at 6.00pm on the 12 th October.The supper follows the evening service at 7.00pm.

THURSDAY 16 th October‘ THE VIRGIN MARY AND THE NEW CREATION'. A day exploring the role of Mary Mother of God Incarnate in fulfilling the promise of a new heaven and earth. Leader: Father Alex Adkins who serves as Roman Catholic priest in Lincoln .

! NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!! THE ANNUAL APPLE DAY.

Come along with your wellies and pick the fruit of the Vicarage orchard. For the less energetic peeling and chopping is the order of the day. This day includes a free lunch!

BISHOP'S VISITATION – Thursday 23rd October

 

The Bishop of Lincoln is making a visitation to these parishes on the 23rd October (Thursday).He hopes to gain a clearer understanding of the nature of our communities and the role of the church within them. There will be an ‘open meeting' for all parishioners to meet him and ask questions this will be a 7.30pm in St Andrew's Parish Hall Witham on the Hill (or in church depending on availability) It will be proceeded by Evening Prayer at 7.00pm and will end at 9.00pm.

TIMETABLE

0915 – Morning Prayer at Edenham followed by coffee at the Vicarage – (might be convenient for school runners!)

1200 -1300. Sandwich Lunch at The Windmill Inn Swinstead ( please notify me of  numbers by Tuesday lunchtime)

1900 – Evening Prayer at Witham

1930 -  Open meeting in Witham Parish Hall  - please come prepared with questions or other contributions.

FRIDAY 24 th October DREAMS – GOD'S FORGOTTEN LANGUAGE. Dilys Phipps, a psychotherapist and spiritual director explores that place in the mind where the Lord reveals himself in the ‘psychic events' called dreams.

26 TH OCTOBER -EDENHAM – Lynda Wilson will be serving coffee after the service today. Proceeds towards Lynda's trip to Belarus to help distribute ‘shoeboxes' with the Operation Christmas Child Campaign

WEDNESDAY 30 TH OCTOBER.   FATHER DAVID'S ‘LENTEN TRAWL' proved to be a net worth lowering again.  (There are at least two dear old crows would like their net worth raising) So on the last Wednesday of each month at 2.00 pm Edenham Vicarage we will see what the ‘The Trawl' produces. All Welcome.

SUNDAY 2nd November  ALL SOULS DAY – Service for the commemoration of the Faithful Departed. 6.00 pm Witham-on-the-Hill. There is a booklet at the back of the Church for names to be recorded for prayer.

Fri 14- Sun 16 th November PARISH RETREAT AT HEMINGFORD GREY:

This year the Conductor will be Tim Mountain , Minister of Grantham Baptist Church . The Chaplain providing worship will be Father David Bratley. Cost £85. See the vicar for an Application Form or click here.

FRIDAY 21 st November STRANGERS RECOGNISED . Leader: Canon Les Oglesby. ‘The Stranger' is an important and under-explored theme but one which is important in Christian Development. This day explores three Biblical Passages about God as stranger. Les oversees the continuing education and development of clergy in Ely Diocese.

ADVENT QADVENT QUIET EVENINGS:

‘BEHOLD THE BRIDEGROOM!'

Three evenings exploring the themes of the ‘Song of Songs' in Bible Study, poetry, prayer and music.

(THURSDAYS 27 th November, and the 4 th and 11 th December 7.30pm -9.00pm). UIET EVENINGS:

Leader: The Revd Andrew Hawes.

An opportunity for a time of detailed and prayerful attention to this short book of the Old Testament. In contemporary Christian thought the ‘ Song of Songs' is often ignored but it is central to the Christian mystical tradition and expresses the themes of waiting, longing and desire which are central to the spirituality of Advent

Friday 5 th December SEEING THE BABY AT CHRISTMAS: Many pictures depict the baby Jesus in the manger. This day will look at some less famous and less well known examples and explore their meaning. Leader: The Revd Peter Garland, Vicar of St John's Spalding .

THURSDAY 11th December 7.30 pm - 9.00 Advent quiet evening

Friday 12 th December FUN WITH FLOWERS – FOR CHRISTMAS. A day for all those who love flower arranging. Please book a place early as space is limited. Details of materials etc will be provided as soon as is practical. There will be an opportunity to participate in the noon celebration of the Eucharist.

 

Saturday 13 th December. LOOKING AT DARKNESS IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.

A traditional quiet day for Advent with addresses, quiet and worship. Leader: David Redrobe, for many years a Methodist Presbyter, David is now an Anglican Layman with many years experience of retreat ministry.

 

SATURDAY 13 TH DECEMBER AT SWINSTEAD CHURCH –‘ Evening of Music for Cello and Voices and Poetry for Christmas'. Tickets £8.00 including mulled wine and refreshments. Proceeds in aid of Swinstead Church .

A day to explore the moment of revelation which is the Baptism of Jesus. Biblical meditations, worship and silence is the diet for today. Leader: The Revd Andrew Hawes.

VALENTINES DAY – SATURDAY 14 TH FEBRUARY 2009 – Dinner Dance organised by Friends of the Regional House. Champagne Reception, dancing to the ‘Red Hot Chillies'. Tickets £25.00, only 70 left.

An opportunity to join the parish community at Edenham in their prayer, worship and activities from Maundy Thursday to Easter Day; beginning with liturgy of the last supper through to the Dawn Vigil on Easter Day. There will be plenty of opportunity for personal reflection and recreation. All rooms ensuite, fully catered (suggested contribution £ 100 )

Confirmation

Next year's parish confirmation service will be at Edenham on Sunday 17th May 2008 at 10.30 am.  Now is the time to express interest or find out more.  Preparation will begin before Christmas.  There are usually two groups, one for youngsters and one for adults.
